Recommended Installation Guide

This information is provided as a general recommendation only.

Every job is different, so please ensure the timing and methods suit your specific project.

All products mentioned below — adhesives, patch kit, and sealants — are available for purchase directly from Renderlook.

1. When to install

For Jobs that will be colour texture coated:

It is recommended that you install your mouldings after the first layer of render (the base coat) but before the final textured/colour layer of render (the top coat).

For Jobs that will be rendered and painted:

Ensure that you install your mouldings after the render is finished; but before paint works commence.

2. Preparing the Wall

  1. Make sure the wall is straight, dry and clean.
  2. Clearly mark where each moulding will go before you start. Please take into consideration where the pre-existing expansion joints are and use this as a guide for the expansion joints needed to install mouldings.

3. Installing the Mouldings

Adhesive Options (sold by Renderlook):

  1. Polystyrene-suitable construction adhesive such as Bostic No Nails 310ml Tube, OR
  2. Expanding foam adhesive (quick drying).

Important: Expanding foam sets fast and is difficult to reposition. Once the moulding is in place it’s very hard to remove. This option is only recommended for experienced installers.

Steps:

  1. Apply your chosen adhesive to the back of the moulding.
  2. Press the moulding firmly into position.
  3. Please note that an expanison joint is needed every 4.8m (or Every 2 Moulds).
  4. Patch all joins with Renderlook’s in-house patch kit to achieve a smooth, seamless finish.
  5. Seal all junctions between the wall and the moulding (and along the top if required) with Sika 11 FC to create a flexible, weather-tight joint.

4. Aftercare & Painting

Once the top textured coat of render is applied and dry, check the joins and touch up sealant or patching if needed.

  1. Prime and paint the mouldings within 7 days of installation with a high-quality exterior paint. We recommend Dulux Acratex® Elastomeric 201 for maximum flexibility, weather resistance and long-term performance.
  2. Inspect the paintwork periodically and repaint when needed to keep everything looking fresh.
